Le pattern est interesting: les Slippery forecast hit several times when the match turned out to be a genuine offensive duel, but the same verticality was also responsible for major misses. When one team failed to convert its chances, our “yes” prediction inevitably became a costly piece of optimism.

Rennes-Olympiakós Piraeus, Lillestrøm-Plzen et Sturm Graz-Celje illustrent parfaitement les dangers d’un scénario trop ambitieux when the first goal changes the complexion of the match.

Le Milan a pushing pour installer son attacking supremacy, mais either lacked the efficiency in front of the goal or met a defense organized around containment. The Hungarian team, in turn, benefited from the spaces left behind. Without any individual statistics on shots or possession, we should not pretend to explain the match beyond its visible consequences: Ferencváros a immédiatement transformé l worry in the Milan camp into two decisive goals, while the home side finished without scoring.

C’est aussi why this failure is more uncomfortable than a simple 1-2. When the favorite loses 0-2, the margin reveals a competitive imbalance rather than a narrow tactical accident. Ferencváros did not merely steal the points; it controlled enough of the key moments to keep Milan at arm’s length. The victory lifts the club to 12 points and leaves it perfectly positioned at the top of the standings, while the pressure on Milan becomes considerably heavier before the next round.

Notre erreur over 2.5 buts was built on the assumption that a team in trouble would push forward, but Ferencváros refused to engage in an open exchange. The total initially remained at two goals, and then moved away from our expectation rather than toward it. It is a reminder that a predicted favorite does not automatically make the match more volatile. Sometimes, the favorite’s anxiety benefits the more compact team.

Avec 73 % de confiance, our choice was clear: the German team would win. Marseille, en revanche, s’est imposé 1-0. The score was narrow, but the implications were not: Leverkusen’s inability to turn its territorial or numerical advantages into a goal proved decisive.

Here, the tactical explanation emerges naturally from the scoreboard. Marseille defended with sufficient concentration to prevent any major opening, then found enough space to punish the home side. One goal was enough because there was no second chance. The French club did not need to dominate the match; it only needed to protect a thin but valuable advantage, and it managed to do so.

Our under? Actually we selected over 2.5 and BTTS yes, both wrong. This was not an overly speculative call in terms of result confidence, but rather one that underestimated the possibility of a rigid, controlled 0-1. It also highlights the dangers of using confidence as shorthand for inevitability. Seventy-three percent may indicate a strong statistical leaning, but football is specifically the discipline in which a single blocked move, one hesitant finishing move or one defensive intervention can overturn an entire forecast.

Despite the defeat, Leverkusen remains in the upper group with 9 points. Marseille, though not shown in the top eight, can build on a win that carries more psychological than statistical weight. The club demonstrated that a trip to Germany can be negotiated without conceding heavily. Whether that defensive solidity can be reproduced under pressure remains another matter, but the first message is clear.

Cinq buts, un rythme élevé, des Notation changeantes: the Scottish club finally found the resources to win a duel that seemed likely to remain unresolved.

We expected Beşiktaş to exploit the space left by a more expansive Celtic, but the home team ultimately held on. The Turkish side certainly scored twice, so the BTTS forecast was correct, while the high total also proved right. This is the kind of match where a wrong result can coexist with a broadly accurate reading of the game’s attacking potential.

It is nevertheless a useful distinction. A forecaster should not defend a wrong pick by claiming that “the atmosphere was right” or that “the game was there.” The scoreline says Celtic won 3-2. Our model selected Beşiktaş and was wrong. What we did correctly identify was the likelihood of an open confrontation, and that proved valuable from a goals-based perspective.

Le Celtic, à 7 points, et Beşiktaş, également à 7, restent however in the same competitive zone despite the five-goal spectacle. This round illustrated why the Europa League standings can be both fluid and misleading: one spectacular win offers significant momentum, but it does not resolve the central questions of consistency.

Ce faible percentage indicated a genuine doubt, and the result justified taking the calculated risk. Plzen did not need a flamboyant attacking display; a single goal was enough. The Czech team’s pragmatism exposed a home side unable to turn its playing presence into a concrete advantage.

The Omonia Nicosie produced a similar lesson against NEC Nimègue, but with more goals and more complete success for our forecasts. The Cypriot team lost 1-3, while the Dutch side won, exceeded 2.5 goals and saw both teams score. Here, the home advantage proved effective, but not because NEC produced a flawless performance. The 3-1 score suggests a match in which Omonia remained competitive enough to score while NEC repeatedly found the forward passages it needed.

Our confidence was moderate, 55 %, yet all three predictions were correct. This is the most satisfying kind of forecasting success: not simply identifying the strongest name, but matching the result with the expected match profile. The NEC did not need to be overwhelming; it needed to be more effective in decisive areas than its opponent.

Hapoel Beer Sheva s’estenger 0-2 devant OFI. The home team had been selected at 46 %, so the market of certainty was not especially high, but our two goals-based forecasts were both wrong. The clean sheet and the low total point to a controlled Israeli derby-style encounter in which Hapoel failed to impose its presumed attacking superiority.

Sunderland offered a similar warning. The English club, selected with 67 % de confiance, lost 0-2 to Dinamo Zagreb. Here again, the “yes” for Les deux équipes marquent was misplaced, as the home side failed to find the net. Dinamo Zagreb did not need a large margin; two well-taken chances were sufficient to turn a difficult trip into three points. These results underline the value of distinguishing between a likely winner and a likely goal-scoring team. A team may be expected to win without being expected to produce many goals.

We had selected Rennes, more than 2.5 goals and goals from both sides. Instead, neither team managed to score. The scoreline suggests caution, discipline and a strong emphasis on preventing the opponent from entering the most dangerous zones.

It is the clearest example of the round’s recurring theme: our predictions leaned too heavily toward open play, while several teams treated the first goal as something to be earned rather than inevitable. Olympiakós, now at 10 points, drew level in the table and secured a useful point in Brittany. Rennes, for their part, may feel they missed an opportunity at home, but the draw demonstrates that their defensive structure was not necessarily broken.

Our scorecard contains other misses that deserve less space than the Milan or Leverkusen defeats but still help explain the numbers. Crystal Palace and Hoffenheim drew 1-1, with our home victory, high total and BTTS “yes” selection only partially landing. Real Sociedad and Lyon produced another 1-1, again exceeding our expectations for a home win while confirming the BTTS forecast. These two results underline the difficulty of separating teams with comparable attacking resources.

The Anderlecht–Salzburg match was perhaps more straightforward. Anderlecht won 2-0, as predicted, but the low total and the BTTS miss showed that the result choice did not require the kind of goal feast we imagined. Levski Sofia similarly defeated Jagiellonia 1-0, confirming the result while exposing a misunderstanding of the scoring margin. These are the more manageable errors: the winner was right, but the imagined route to that victory was wrong.

The three goals came in a match that ultimately escaped the prediction of a tight, one-goal contest. The Belgian team reached 7 points and now appears among the principal contenders for qualification.

Sturm Graz and Celje produced a 3-2 thriller that was almost the mirror image of the Celtic–Beşiktaş game. We selected Sturm, but Celje won; at the same time, our forecasts on more than 2.5 goals and BTTS were right. Celje showed a particularly attacking spirit in Austria, and the result leaves Sturm in need of immediate correction.

Finally, Torreense beat Ararat-Armenia 3-2. The Portuguese club was our correct winner, but the under-2.5 and BTTS “no” predictions both failed. It was a narrow success on the 1X2 market: we identified the winning side but not the open, high-scoring character of the encounter.

This was a strong call overall. Benfica now has 9 points and moves firmly into the qualification zone. The 3-1 margin also suggests a side capable of converting its pressure into a multi-goal advantage, while Lech retained enough freedom to punish its opponent on at least one occasion. It is exactly the kind of combination that makes a high-confidence prediction meaningful: the direction was right, the goal range was right, and only the BTTS component slipped.

Juventus provided another clean success against AZ Alkmaar. The Italians won 2-1, matching our result, total and BTTS forecasts. This was a compact but productive offensive performance, with both teams finding the net and AZ remaining close enough to ensure that the visiting side could not rest on its laurels. Juventus, à 7 points, continues to build momentum without excessive drama.

Their attacking potential was correctly identified, and the defeat suffered by Sparta Prague did not prevent the visitors from producing three goals of their own.

The Premier League representatives have made the strongest start among the English participants in the table and will now face the pressure of a group that expects them to remain in the race until the final rounds.

La principale is not a single leader, but the narrowness of the gaps. The top seven are separated by only three points. Such a configuration leaves little room for error: a defeat against a mid-table opponent can quickly push a team outside the visible qualification places. It also gives new importance to away results, because teams such as Ferencváros, Plzen and the Omonia Nicosie have already shown that they can travel without fear.

Several former assumptions about the race have been overturned. Milan’s defeat reduces its margin for error and raises questions about the conversion of its attacking play. Leverkusen, despite its strong heritage, has not yet turned its statistical preference into results. Benfica and Juventus, on the other hand, have demonstrated useful efficiency. Bournemouth, meanwhile, has transformed an encouraging start into genuine leadership.

The standings also remind us to separate “best team” from “most profitable forecast.” Ferencváros may now top the table, but picking the home favorite Milan produced the biggest failure. Marseille may not appear in the top eight, but its win over Leverkusen is one of the round’s most consequential results. The table rewards consistency; the betting market, meanwhile, pays for anticipation.

Our best calls were not all comfortable ones. The NEC and Juventus selections were supported by complete forecast profiles, but the model also found value in the Omonia Nicosie result. The fact that it landed demonstrates that a lower percentage can be more insightful than a cautious pick on an overwhelmingly favorite side.

Our main recurring error was an excessive tendency to expect a high number of goals. Six matches crossed the 2.5-goal threshold, but we found twelve situations where a team’s nominal superiority did not translate into a sufficiently fluid match. Rennes-Olympiakós, Milan-Ferencváros, Leverkusen-Marseille, Crystal Palace-Hoffenheim, Levski-Jagiellonia and Sunderland-Dinamo Zagreb all illustrate the same lesson: a forecast must include the possibility that the stronger side settles for control rather than continuous attack.

The BTTS column suffered from a related problem. Predicting goals for both teams works well in open games, but it becomes fragile when one side’s attacking line is misfiring or when the opponent sets up a particularly effective defensive block. Marseille’s clean sheet against Leverkusen and Dinamo Zagreb’s shutout against Sunderland were particularly costly.

Finally, the confidence percentages must be interpreted with humility. Benfica’s 84 % pick was correct, but Milan’s 72 % and Leverkusen’s 73 % were not. This does not make the percentages useless; it makes them a measure of the model’s tendency rather than an insurance policy. The higher the number, the greater the disappointment when the football refuses to cooperate.

Le prochain rendez-vous will clarify whether the leaders can keep their advantage or whether the challengers will close the gap. Bournemouth and Ferencváros, on 12 points, have set a demanding standard. Olympiakós, Benfica and Leverkusen will need to stabilize quickly, while the Juventus, the Union Saint-Gilloise and Beşiktaş will seek every possible point to remain in the race.

Milan faces the most urgent examination. The defeat against Ferencváros cannot be treated as an isolated accident, but neither should it trigger an automatic diagnosis. The team must solve its attacking efficiency, improve its chances of scoring first and avoid leaving so much space for counterattacks. Leverkusen will similarly need to discover how to translate control into goals.

For the less prominent clubs, the lesson is encouraging. Omonia Nicosie, Plzen, Ferencváros and Marseille have shown that this competition remains open to those prepared to defend well, travel confidently and attack efficiently. And as this fourth round has demonstrated, the Europa League rarely follows the script for long.

Notre verdict final is therefore mixed but honest: 44 % on the 1X2 market is a respectable return, far from perfect; 33 % on the goals shows that our attacking scenarios were too often miscalibrated; and 44 % on BTTS confirms that we understood the spirit of several matches without mastering their finest details. The next objective is clear: keep the successful result choices, reduce our appetite for excess goals and learn, once again, that a favorite is merely a probability, not a guarantee.
