The round was therefore not dominated by one clear trend. Rather, it alternated between high-scoring confrontations, tight draws and surprising defensive performances.

The victory of Venezia over Udinese offered the clearest combination of our successful calls. The 2-1 scoreline confirmed the home side, a match with more than 2.5 goals and both teams finding the net. AS Roma delivered the most convincing performance with a 3-0 against Sassuolo, while Inter comfortably dismissed Como 2-0. At the opposite end, Monza’s defeat by Atalanta and Frosinone’s narrow loss to Cagliari underlined how difficult it remains to read the balance between attack and defence in this championship.

Our result predictions reached six correct choices from the ten matches listed, equivalent to a success rate of 60%. The official summary displayed for this round gives a slightly different figure of 6/9, so there is a discrepancy in the denominator. The same issue appears in the goal forecasts: the match-by-match data contains two correct total-goals selections, although the summary reports a 22% rate. For “Les deux équipes marquent”, the listed results and predictions imply four correct calls out of ten, while one of the entries — Fiorentina-Juventus — is incorrectly labelled as a miss even though the prediction and the 2-2 scoreline agree.

Rather than hiding these inconsistencies, it is more useful to state them clearly. Based on the ten results actually supplied, our accuracy was 60% for the Résultat du match (1X2), 20% for the total-goals market and 40% for “Les deux équipes marquent”. The headline figures remain broadly encouraging, but they also show that our strength lies in identifying the general winner rather than in forecasting the number or distribution of goals.

Our six successful result forecasts were Venezia-Udinese, Parma-Bologna, Roma-Sassuolo, Genoa-Milan, Monza-Atalanta and Inter-Como. Most of those picks were logical, but only some were emphatic. Roma’s 73% home prediction was backed by the strongest performance of the round, and Milan’s away selection was justified by a 2-1 victory in Genoa. Inter’s 48% forecast for the match against Como was ultimately correct, although the margin proved less comfortable than expected.

The misses were equally instructive. We expected Frosinone to beat Cagliari, only for the promoted-looking side to lose 1-0. We also favoured Torino over Lecce, Napoli over Lazio and Juventus over Fiorentina. None of those four predictions came good. Three ended in draws, while the Napoli-Lazio meeting became the central disappointment: our choice to predict a home success proved much harder to defend.

Les totaux: seulement 2 réussites sur 10

Our record on more than 2.5 goals was significantly weaker. The over 2.5 forecast worked in Venezia-Udinese and Roma-Sassuolo, but it failed in eight matches. Particularly costly was the choice for Monza-Atalanta: Atalanta won 1-0 despite our expectation of an open contest. The Inter-Como match followed a similar pattern, with a controlled 2-0 rather than the high-scoring encounter we anticipated.

Parma-Bologna represented another instructive error. We had called the match under 2.5 and “no” for Les deux équipes marquent, yet the visitors won 2-1. A single goal separated our under selection from the actual result, but the underlying failure was more substantial: we underestimated the attacking contribution of both teams.

The correct “yes” selections in this category were Venezia-Udinese, Torino-Lecce, Napoli-Lazio and Fiorentina-Juventus. The 1-1 draw between Torino and Lecce was a good example of a prediction that required both sides to find the net without assuming a large number of goals. Napoli-Lazio was another successful reading of an evenly balanced contest.

Conversely, our “yes” call in Cagliari-Frosinone failed because Frosinone were held scoreless. Roma-Sassuolo, Monza-Atalanta and Inter-Como produced the same kind of problem: we expected an exchange of goals but instead witnessed a clean sheet. Genoa-Milan was also misread when we selected “no”, only for Les deux équipes marquent in a 2-1 away victory.

Few matches better illustrate what this forecasting exercise should aspire to produce. Our prediction of a Venezia victory, more than 2.5 goals and both teams scoring was entirely correct in a 2-1 home success. The three selections complement one another rather than merely repeating the same expectation. We anticipated a contest in which Udinese would remain competitive enough to score, while still giving Venezia the edge.

The result also reflects the broader structure of the round. This was not a case of one team comfortably controlling every aspect of the match, nor was it a sterile stalemate. The presence of goals on both sides made the victory more difficult to predict, and our forecast captured that element of risk. If there was a weakness, it was the absence of more detailed information about individual performers, but the outcome itself was handled perfectly.

From a confidence perspective, the 43% estimate for Venezia was relatively restrained, while the 51% selection for more than 2.5 goals and 57% for Les deux équipes marquent showed slightly greater conviction. All three assessments were vindicated. This game should serve as the model for future rounds: identify the likely winner, then check whether the match conditions support the predicted goal profile.

Roma’s 3-0 win over Sassuolo was the round’s most emphatic result, and our forecast of a Roma victory at 73% was the most confident selection we made. The margin did justice to the hierarchy we perceived. Sassuolo were unable to trouble the home side, and the clean sheet was particularly important because our “Les deux équipes marquent” prediction proved wrong.

This match demonstrates the danger of applying one attacking template across an entire fixture list. We had correctly detected Roma’s superiority, but the same tactical assumptions led us to expect Sassuolo to score. The result reveals that an accurate result forecast can coexist with a mistaken goal-market analysis. A team can dominate without conceding, particularly when its defensive organisation prevents the opponent from creating a meaningful response.

The 3-0 scoreline also pushes back against the idea that our low total-goals accuracy was simply bad luck. In several matches we selected more than 2.5 goals and were wrong, but here the most aggressive result forecast was accompanied by another failure: we expected both teams to mark. Roma won the relevant battle on result and margin; Sassuolo failed to contribute to the goal count we had projected.

Fiorentina-Juventus produced the round’s most notable attacking show, ending 2-2 with four goals and both teams scoring. Our result prediction favoured Juventus, while our total-goals selection was more than 2.5. The latter was correct in substance, but the supplied match card marks it as incorrect, even though the four-goal scoreline exceeds the predicted threshold. This is another entry-level inconsistency that should be acknowledged.

The “Les deux équipes marquent” forecast was similarly logically right, yet it too appears as a miss in the provided data. The actual failure was the 1X2 selection: we expected Juventus to win a match that ultimately offered neither side a winner. The draw did not arrive through sterile football, as the two teams produced repeated attacks and enough chances for four goals.

Strategically, this match shows why a draw can be dangerous to forecast when both teams carry credible attacking potential. We may have recognised the likelihood of goals while still expecting one side to edge ahead. The error was therefore not in the tempo of the imagined game, but in the hierarchy between the teams. Our forecast combined a high-event match with an overly firm away victory.

Monza’s 1-0 defeat to Atalanta was arguably our most uncomfortable result miss. We had chosen Atalanta at 48%, so the winner was only marginally favoured rather than backed with overwhelming confidence. Yet the nature of the result went beyond a narrow margin: Atalanta won without conceding, whereas we expected goals at both ends and more than 2.5 in total.

The failure of the total-goals selection was understandable in hindsight, because the home side failed to score and the game remained controlled. More damaging was the “Les deux équipes marquent” forecast: two separate attacking assumptions failed in the same match. That pattern indicates a collective error in reading the fixture’s likely attacking balance, not merely a bad landing on one side of the Plus/Moins buts line.

Inter’s 2-0 victory over Como appeared plausible, but our 62% choice for more than 2.5 goals and 64% expectation that both teams would score were far too ambitious. Como were shut out, and Inter did not need the goal fest we had projected. The 48% result prediction was correct, yet the scoreline was less open than expected.

This game is a reminder that a strong favourite can win comfortably in a match with only two goals. Our tendencies appear to have become correlated: when we favoured Inter, we simultaneously expected an attacking margin and contribution from the opponent. Those assumptions are not always compatible. The result was right, but the associated markets magnified the apparent certainty.

Cagliari-Frosinone: une défense qui contredit notre scénario

Our prediction of a Frosinone victory at 44% was the least secure of the four failed 1X2 forecasts, yet the 1-0 scoreline showed that Cagliari’s defensive control had been underestimated. We also called for more than 2.5 goals and for Les deux équipes marquent. Neither happened, with Frosinone failing to find the net.

The main lesson is that the absence of a strong favourite can encourage an overly speculative model. The match deserved caution on the total-goals market from the outset. Our away choice might have had a logical basis, but attaching high-scoring expectations to a relatively compressed fixture made the overall forecast fragile.

Les autres résultats: de: aux contretemps

Torino-Lecce: le draw was correct, the goal profile too high

Torino and Lecce shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Our prediction of a Torino victory was wrong, as was the expectation of more than 2.5 goals. The “Les deux équipes marquent” selection was right, which accurately identified the balance of the match even if it did not capture the final hierarchy. Lecce’s ability to equalise and hold the draw prevented the home side from turning the contest into the victory we had anticipated.

Parme-Bologne: l’erreur d’un match supposé fermé

Parma-Bologna was another game where the general direction of our forecast was correct. We selected Bologna at 56%, and the visitors won 2-1. However, we also predicted fewer than 2.5 goals and no goal from either side. Both goal-related selections were wrong.

The away victory and the three-goal scoreline suggest that we underestimated the attacking dimension of the fixture. Bologna travelled to Parma and found enough space to score twice, while the hosts also remained productive. Our result analysis was more reliable than our assumptions about defensive control.

Naples-Lazio: lsurprisinglyment la grandeoccasion manquée

Napoli-Lazio was arguably the most significant away result of the round because Lazio, top of the supplied standings, continued their unbeaten run with a 1-1 draw. We predicted Napoli to win at 42%, and expected an open match with more than 2.5 goals. The latter was wrong, but the prediction that both sides would score was correct.

The draw does not mean either team lacked attacking intent, but it did expose a risk in backing the home side against an opponent with an unbeaten record. Lazio’s ability to resist pressure and secure a point deserved more weight in the original assessment.

Genoa-Milan delivered a correct away result and an incorrect under 2.5 forecast. Milan won 2-1, and both teams scored despite our selection of “no”. The match was closer than the final margin suggests, with Genoa remaining sufficiently dangerous to contribute to the scoring. Our choice of Milan at 50% was well judged; the goal-market assumptions were not.

The best calls were not necessarily the most confident ones. Roma’s 73% pick was obvious in retrospect, whereas Venezia’s 43% forecast combined all three markets successfully. More importantly, our strongest calls came when the components of the prediction reinforced one another. When a result pick was paired with aggressive goal assumptions, as in Inter-Como, the latter often introduced avoidable risk.

The updated top eight supplied after the round show Lazio leading with 29 points from nine wins, two draws and no defeats. Their draw at Napoli therefore preserved an unbeaten record that is now a central feature of the championship. Inter remain extremely close behind with 28 points, having strengthened their position by beating Como 2-0. A one-point gap is small enough for either side to move ahead in the next round.

Roma’s 3-0 victory against Sassuolo kept them third with 27 points and three fewer wins than Lazio but three more draws. Their unbeaten record gives them another layer of security, although the points lost in draws leave very little room for another sequence of stalemates.

Milan’s win in Genoa allowed them to remain fourth on 24 points, three ahead of Como. Como’s defeat did not remove them from the top eight, but it reduced their margin and left them exposed to the chasing group. Frosinone occupy sixth with 20 points despite losing at Cagliari, while Juventus and Bologna share 17 points in seventh and eighth. Bologna’s away success over Parma prevented them from slipping further down the table.

The notable movement therefore comes from the leading group rather than a dramatic reshuffle in the lower positions. Lazio, Inter and Roma have all reinforced their runs in the standings. At the same time, Napoli’s inability to beat Lazio and Monza’s home defeat show that the middle of the table remains tightly packed and vulnerable.

The next round presents an immediate opportunity to improve our goal forecasts. Serie A teams cannot be separated reliably by the winner alone: Torino-Lecce, Napoli-Lazio and Fiorentina-Juventus all demonstrated that a match can remain productive without producing the expected hierarchy. We should place greater emphasis on defensive profiles, especially when a strong favourite faces an opponent capable of keeping the score low.

Another priority is to avoid stacking several uncertain assumptions. A successful result forecast should not automatically lead to more than 2.5 goals, and confidence in one team’s win should not be treated as proof that the opponent will score. The Inter-Como and Monza-Atalanta matches are clear examples of that dependence.

Finally, the disparity between our 60% success rate for results and 20% for totals shows where the next improvements must come from. Identifying winners remains a relative strength; predicting how they will win is the unresolved challenge. If we can better distinguish between an open game and a controlled victory, this round’s lessons should produce a more balanced set of forecasts.

This 11th matchday ended with a respectable record on the main result market and several notable successes. Venezia-Udinese was the most complete prediction, Roma-Sassuolo the clearest confirmation of a hierarchy, and Milan in Genoa showed that our away selections could be decisive. The round also contained genuine surprises, with Cagliari, Atalanta and Lazio all delivering outcomes that exposed weaknesses in our assumptions.

The central lesson is not that one forecast should be abandoned, but that the different markets need to be judged on their own terms. Our winners were usually well identified, whereas the totals and “Les deux équipes marquent” selections were too dependent on an optimistic view of attacking play. A better calibrated model will need to recognise when one team’s control is likely to suppress the opposition and reduce the total.

With Lazio, Inter and Roma separated by only two points at the top, the championship is already taking shape, yet there is little room for complacency. The same is true of our forecasting: a 60% record on results is encouraging, but the sharper margins must be secured through better reading of match tempo, defensive solidity and the relationship between confidence and risk.
