Conference League Round Two Delivers Big Wins and Tight Draws

The second League Stage round of the UEFA Conference League produced a lively mix of emphatic victories and closely contested draws, with 54 goals across the evening’s programme. Panathinaikos delivered the standout result by beating Kairat Almaty 5-1, while Lugano claimed a 5-2 victory over Getafe and Brann also made emphatic progress with a 4-1 win at Kauno Žalgiris. At the other end of the spectrum, several matches were settled by narrow margins. FK Crvena Zvezda and FC Copenhagen shared a 2-2 draw, as did FC Iberia 1999 with Mjallby AIF, FC Nordsjaelland with CSKA Sofia, Pafos with Riga, and Aarhus with Egnatia Rrogozhinë.
There were also notable successes for several teams away from home and in close finishes. Universitatea Craiova beat Inter Club d'Escaldes 3-1, Brighton and Jablonec remained locked together in a 0-0 draw, and Trabzonspor, Ajax, Borac Banja Luka and SC Braga all recorded 2-0 victories over Heart Of Midlothian, Atalanta, KuPS and Gent respectively. Twente completed a 4-1 win against Lincoln Red Imps FC, while St. Truiden edged FC Midtjylland 1-0. Monaco further strengthened their position with a 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg, and HNK Hajduk Split ended the round with a 1-0 win at FC Thun. Overall, the results underline a league stage in which decisive attacking displays coexisted with hard-fought stalemates.
Prediction Scorecard: 10/18 Correct on 1X2
Our 1X2 predictions returned 10 correct selections from 18 matches, an accuracy rate of 56%. The first half produced a mixed set of results: Kairat Almaty 1-5 Panathinaikos and Inter Club d'Escaldes 1-3 Universitatea Craiova were correct, while the prediction for FK Crvena Zvezda 2-2 FC Copenhagen missed despite the draw. Getafe 2-5 FC Lugano was another miss, as was FC Iberia 1999 1-1 Mjallby AIF. FK Jablonec 0-0 Brighton and FC Nordsjaelland 2-2 CSKA Sofia were also incorrectly predicted, but Kauno Žalgiris 1-4 Brann landed successfully. Pafos 1-1 Riga missed, whereas Trabzonspor 2-0 Heart Of Midlothian was another correct call.
The second half strengthened the record. Our picks were right for Aarhus 1-1 Egnatia Rrogozhinë? No: this was a miss, although Ajax 2-0 Atalanta, Borac Banja Luka 2-0 KuPS and SC Braga 2-0 Gent were all successful. Lincoln Red Imps FC 1-4 Twente was also called correctly. FC Midtjylland 0-1 St. Truiden was missed, but Monaco 3-0 SC Freiburg and FC Thun 0-1 HNK Hajduk Split finished the round with two more correct 1X2 predictions.
Five of the 18 matches ended in draws, and every one fell outside our successful 1X2 selections. The clearest pattern was still performance in games with a firm favorite: the 4-1 win for Brann, the 2-0 results for Ajax, Borac Banja Luka, Braga and Trabzonspor, plus Twente's 4-1 success were predicted correctly. The stated Over/Under and BTTS accuracy figures were both 50%, showing that the goal-market calls were less effective than the 56% 1X2 return. Overall, the round delivered a positive 1X2 record of 10/18, but the five missed draws identify the principal area for improvement.
Lugano’s five-goal win stands out among four emphatic Conference League results
Getafe’s 2-5 defeat to FC Lugano produced the clearest prediction miss of the round. The listed prediction was 1 at 50%, but the final score included five goals for Lugano and two for Getafe. It was also the closest of the four matches on the scoreline, with a three-goal margin compared with the four-goal margins recorded in each of the other results. Even so, Lugano’s attacking output made this the most notable high-scoring result among the listed fixtures.
Kairat Almaty’s 1-5 loss to Panathinaikos was the first of the three correct predictions. The forecast was 2 at 59%, yet the teams combined for six goals and Panathinaikos secured a decisive four-goal advantage. The accuracy of the selection therefore came despite a substantial change in the eventual score, highlighting how much value there was in identifying the match outcome rather than relying on a narrow scoreline.
Lincoln Red Imps FC’s 1-4 defeat to Twente was backed by the strongest prediction percentage of the round. The listed forecast was 2 at 79%, and it was marked correct as Twente established a four-goal lead over Lincoln Red Imps FC. This result also featured five total goals, matching the scoring level of Kairat Almaty’s game against Panathinaikos and exceeding the six-goal total in the other two listed matches.
Kauno Žalgiris’ 1-4 loss to Brann completed a run of correct predictions covering the final three results. The prediction was 2 at 56%, and its accuracy came alongside another four-goal winning margin. Across the successful selections, Panathinaikos, Twente and Brann each won by four goals, while their opponents scored once. That pattern made the round notably decisive: the correct predictions were not narrow successes but were accompanied by substantial margins, whereas the incorrect Getafe prediction still corresponded to a convincing five-goal win for FC Lugano.
Three Unbeaten Teams Set the Early Pace
League Stage round 2 left Panathinaikos, FC Lugano, Brann and Trabzonspor joint at the top of the updated standings. Each club has won both of its matches without recording a draw or defeat, taking the maximum six points available so far. Their identical records provide no separation at the summit, but the consistency of their results gives all four teams a strong platform from the early stages of the 2026/27 UEFA Conference League league phase.
Brighton and FC Copenhagen sit just behind the leading group with four points apiece. Both clubs have recorded one victory and one draw across their opening two fixtures, while neither has suffered a defeat. The difference between them and the four leaders is therefore only two points, meaning the standings remain closely grouped despite the perfect records established by the teams above them.
The outlook is shaped by the opportunity for Brighton and FC Copenhagen to draw level with the leaders, while Panathinaikos, FC Lugano, Brann and Trabzonspor aim to preserve their advantage through consistency. A single additional victory could separate any of the leading teams from the chasing pair, although the compact table leaves room for the middle positions to change quickly. For now, the principal message from round 2 is clear: four teams share the lead on six points, while two unbeaten contenders remain within touching distance of that group.
